eLuna - Golani51 Project
August, 2002

Shaaray Tefila Synagogue of North Miami Beach initiated a program that supports Israeli soldiers and the Israeli economy by sending the soldiers for dinner at Israeli restaurants.

The Miami community, under the guidance of Debbie and Harvey Lichtman, raised $10,000 in memory of Golani 51soldier Gedaliah Mellick z"l who fell in Jenin during Operation Defense Shield. These funds will be used to purchase dinner for two at restaurants in Israel, for soldiers from the Golani 51 Brigade.

On August 12 the parties met at the office of Tal Frankel, trustee of this program. Dr Michael Goldstien, the representative of the Miami community and a volunteer at Hadassah Hospital, presented the gift from Shaaray Tefila Synagogue. Kobi Heller presented Dr.Goldstein with a plaque commemorating this project. Dr Goldstein will present the plaque to the Miami synagogue on his return.
