Goshen is a high caliber grill restaurant.
Located in Tel Aviv, on the historic Nachalat Binyamin Street, Goshen is a restaurant for true meat lovers. The first indication of this is the meat locker displaying all the finest cuts. Having worked as a butcher I found this fascinating, and took great pleasure in describing the cuts to my wife, as our interest and appetites grew.
The interior is modern and softly lit, with beautiful marble floors and dark wood furniture. Though the restaurant is not small, the decor achieves a feeling of intimacy. There is a private room with seating for up to 35 diners. There is also a full bar with many high quality spirits.
The menu is a meat lover?s dream. All the various cuts are offered in sizes from 300gr all the way to a full kilo. All the meat is aged on the premises, which is good for two reasons: When aging beef, water evaporates from the muscle which gives the meat more concentrated flavors. In addition, during the aging process enzymes in the meat break down making it more tender.

We started our meal with the restaurant's wonderful Foccacia bread. Not to discount for one second the meat which is grilled to perfection, but the Focaccia was so good we knew we were eating at a truly special establishment. Warm and crispy baked with sea salt, and rosemary it was the perfect way to start a terrific meal.
For an appetizer my wife had the green salad with beef. The salad was very good, and I began to notice something about the restaurant that delighted me. There was very little dressing on the salad. The beef was perfectly mixed in giving its wonderful flavor to the salad itself. I had the liver trio: three different kinds of liver, pure meat liver, eggplant liver, and zucchini liver. All three were tasty, but the zucchini liver was tremendous. It was thick and creamy with just a touch of sweetness, yum.
You can have the main courses brought on separate plates or served together on a tray. After seeing another table served a tray piled high with meat we elected to try it that way, and we were not disappointed. I ordered the lamb chops, and my wife had an entrecote steak. First our waiter brought out a wrought iron tray with tea lights. Then a few minutes later our meat was served on a sizzling skillet with the rice and potatoes. Every main dish comes with two types of rice; White rice with vegetables, and a dark spicier brown rice. Each was very tasty as were the baby potatoes, crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside with great seasonings and flavor.
Now for the meat. Perfectly grilled to our specifications the meat was soft, and flavorful. Here is where the restaurant really shined. In other restaurants I find myself arguing with the waiters not to put any house sauce or extra flavoring on my meat. At Goshen, Chef Guy Levi understands that the flavor of the meat is the principle. The meat was seasoned with a bit of salt and pepper but that was it, all that wonderful aged flavor really came through and shows how with choice cuts less really is more.
For dessert my wife the chocoholic, chose the chocolate soufflé. I had the watermelon soup with Coconut Cake and vanilla ice cream. My choice was cold and refreshing but the soufflé was special. It was served in teacups on a tray, and there are two kinds. One is a creamy nougat flavor, and the other is peppered chocolate. If you have never tasted spicy chocolate it is quite an experience.
