The
Goals
of "The Meal
Appeal"
The
eLuna.com "Meal Appeal" Project is a two-pronged program
that brings needed revenue to Israeli businesses while saluting
the Israeli security forces. The soldiers enjoy a well-deserved
break and the restaurants receive an infusion of badly needed cash.
Maimonides teaches that the highest form of tzedaka is to bring
work to the faltering, thereby contributing to their economic solvency
without the loss of self-respect.
In this program, a Diaspora community raises funds that are used
to send an Israeli army unit to lunch or dinner at a kosher restaurant
in Israel. This raises the moral of the soldiers while contributing
to the economic solvency of restaurant.
The restaurant industry touches many other industries. Food suppliers,
wine suppliers, even suppliers of dishes and glassware draw revenue
from the restaurant industry. Giving restaurants added financial
support is a way of boosting the economy.
The terrorist war of the past three years has been waged on the
homefront. The restaurants were the front line. Customers stayed
away from the restaurants and many of these places closed. This
impacted on all the industries that touch the restaurants and brought
down the economy.
You can have a hand in reviving these important businesses.
How does our program work?
We
contact army units and arrange to send them to lunch or dinner at
an appropriate kosher restaurant. One of the important projects
that we ran was organizing dinner for worn and weary soldiers moving
locations. Moving is hard work and moving day is often wrought with
unexpected problems. The soldiers often do not get a decent meal
the whole day. When the soldiers are finally on their way to their
new destination, they often stop somewhere along the road and each
soldier pays his own way. The places available are often non-kosher
and our kosher observing soldiers go hungry.
eLuna.com arranges a good hearty meal at a kosher restaurant for
soldiers on the move between locations, assuring that all the soldiers
are well fed and ready for their next assignment. |
