About Maki Sushi Bar menu
Maki Sushi Bar, Raanana, is in the building shared by the Office Depot. It is off the main street, so look carefully. There is a sign, but it is easy to miss, which would be unfortunate. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside, in the well air-conditioned room, on the warm summer evening when we visited the restaurant.
This is a small restaurant with minimalistic decore. That just makes it more intimate and gives the restaurant staff the opportunity to service each customer personally. No waiting. The staff is there to serve you. We snuggled into a banquet and enjoyed our meal.
Wow the choices. We started with a platter of veggie inside outs. We prefer the avocado and sweet potato combinations but we decided not to specify the vegetables, and let the sushi chef have his way. We were impressed with the large pieces of sushi and the appetizing presentation. The chef's combinations were wonderful. This was so successful that we followed the inside-out with a veggie sushi that was coated and fried on the outside. How delicious can you get?
There are many varieties of sushi including sushi rice topped with smoked salmon or tuna sliced very thin and filled with another piece of cooked fish inside surrounded by thin carrot sticks.
All the sushi comes with soy sauce for dipping, ginger and wasabi, and an aioli mayonnaise.
For our main, my companion and I shared the salmon dish with vegetables and rice. Out came a huge bowl of rice, stir fried vegetables and two salmon fillets. These were layered in the bowl, with the rice at the bottom. Each of us dug deep to get a portion of rice and vegetables. This generous dish was easily enough for the two of us.
The menu also offers dim sum, with steamed colorful peppers.Dim sum is unusual at kosher sushi restaurants, so dig in.
There are plenty of variations of chicken and beef sushi, and there are also stir-fried meat and vegetables with noodles available. There is a tofu substitute for vegetarians.
As for special diets, the restaurant offers sushi for pregnant women who are advised not to eat raw fish. These are called Vietnamese rolls, made with cooked fish. These are also very popular with children.
The restaurant accommodates take away. For now you have to pick up your take away order at the restaurant.
Prices vary from NIS 6 for an individual sushi to NIS 17 26 for different sized packages.
