Who couldn't use some serious comfort food right about now. Meuchas is an uptown meat restaurant that specializes in fresh salads, grilled meats, and all the comfort food you can eat. The restaurant is located up King George Street, in the round building across from Yeshurun Synagogue. We call that uptown.
The only thing uptown about Meuchas is the location. The menu is comfortable and familiar, reminiscent of an Agripas Steak restaurant. This is largely a meat restaurant with veggie appetizers. The prices are reasonable, so bring the family and the kids will enjoy the childrens menu.
The menu is a simple one-page listing of enticing appetizers, side dishes and mains.
For your appetizer. go with the traditional Hummus “Meuchas” Served With Chickpeas or Chopped Meat. Though Meuchas is most certainly a meat restaurant, there are several vegetarian appetizers such as grilled eggplant With Tahini sauce, the Middle Eastern Stuffed grape leaves-filled With onion and cabbage and the "Arab style" chopped salad.
Some of these are also available as main courses.
Side dishes include the expected mashed potatoes and chips, and in addition,a rice and beans side dish or the Middle Eastern Couscous with vegetables
Appetizers and side dishes may be vegetarian, but main courses are for meat lovers. Grilled meats on skewers include Steak Entrecote, Kebab, chicken Pullet, Chicken Livers. Meat dishes include Chicken Breast, Schnitzel,
Meurav Yerushalmii (organ meats) Sausages, Entrecote Steak and the top of the line Lamb Chops.
Meuchas is a family restaurant, offering childrens meals priced accordingly.
The owners of the restaurant are descendants of the well known Jerusalem Meyuchas family. Not always in the restaurant business, the Meyuchas was a family of rabbis, merchants and Spanish public figures.
The ancestors arrived in Eretz Israel at the beginning of the sixteenth century in the immigration of the Spanish inquisition and in the seventeenth century from Izmir. They settled in Jerusalem and were one of the first families to set out outside the city walls.
