A real treat is in store for all who visit My Bagel Café, the new restaurant at 16 HaTidhar St. in Ra'anana's Industrial Park area. Even before taking a seat, you are quickly struck by the handsome décor. A wall-size photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge provides an attractive backdrop to comfortable chairs and tables, placed both inside and on an outside patio, and to a well-lit display counter of some of the restaurant's offerings. An elegantly decorated, secluded V.I.P room can accommodate up to 25 for any special occasion.
The menu appears staggering in its rich variety. Ten different types of bagels – the tastiest that I have eaten in Israel - are featured, along with three salads and two soups in season. Israeli, American (pancakes!), and Continental breakfasts can be ordered, with items hot off the grill.

"My gourmet bagel" presents a lightly toasted bagel artfully arranged, covered by a bed of roasted vegetables in a pesto sauce. Or consider such possibilities as pasta – I particularly enjoyed the heaping bowl of fresh spaghetti - lasagna, ravioli, and stir fried; omelets on bagel or gebetta; or four different quiches that are accompanied with salad.
The diet-conscious are not neglected here. Consideration has been given to lowfat salads and dressings, different percentages of fat in cream cheese, organic pasta, and even quinoa with roasted vegetables for a macrobiotic diet. Children have their own choices, "kids' meals" a separate part of the menu.
Drinks are varied as well; brewed coffee; espresso; cappuccino; latte; teas; frostees; milk shakes; juices; sodas; wines; and beers. You must also leave room for dessert, with delicious cakes, pies, and ice cream just waiting to be savored. I highly recommend the chocolate mousse.
The portions are large, the prices reasonable. Young men and women provide courteous and dependable service from early morning to late evening. Free parking is available in a lot adjacent to the restaurant. Hats off, then, to proprietor Mark Simon for My Bagel Café, a restaurant which breathes one word: class! |
