Here's an
American aliya story: An American psychologist and her physicist husband
have opened a cafe restaurant in Jerusalem. What could be more 21st
century than that?
Nina's Bagel Cafe is a charming American-style dairy restaurant/cafe
in the Ramat Eshkol shopping center. Nina brings her California mind-set
to this new venture. She has created a nice place to sit, with American
coffee-shop foods, American style service and American music.
 "There
are other cafes in the Ramat Eshkol center, but they are more like bakeries.
Our goal is to offer a cafe that is a nice place to sit." So says
Nina Green, an American Olah from California, who has opened a Cafe/Restaurant
in the Ramat Eshkol shopping center.

Nina's menu offers a delightful selection of foods not often found in
Israeli Batei Cafe. The menu offers bagel sandwiches, salads with different
dressings, soup, munchies, cold and hot beverages, and desserts. The
menu is constantly expanding and it now includes belgian waffles, pastas,
quiches, and a selection of deliciously prepared fish each week (such
as broiled salmon with mango salsa, salmon in sweet ginger sauce, etc..),
pasta (fettucini alfredo, pesto-feta fettucini), lasagna, quiches, low-fat
muffins, and much more.
What's so California about Nina's?
The cafe offers all
the yummie creamy goodies that you would expect to find in a cafe, but
there are also fat-free and sugar-free foods. Breakfast is available
all day, and Nina will be starting an early-bird special for the early
morning breakfast crowd.
 Then
there are the bagels. You can have a bagel sandwich at the table or
you can take home a dozen. Enjoy a bagel specialty like a New Yorker,
with lox and cream cheese, or the Italian special, with Mozarella cheese.
The menu also has a section called Munchies, including the munchie "Nachos
Grande" which is a mound of tortilla chips with melted cheese,
guacamole (in season) salsa and sour cream.
You don't have to buy frozen yogurt at a stand and eat it on the run.
Have a seat at Nina's and order it from the menu. And there are lots
of great drinks, including steamed milk that you can have flavored with
cinnamon, chocolate, and other creative flavors. The drinks are great
with a delicious dessert, that come from a popular American food supplier
in Jerusalem.
There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and seating at the bar. Take
your choice. Stop in at Nina's Bagel Cafe and enjoy a little piece of
California in Ramat Eshkol.
Delivery is
now available free for orders of 150 NIS or more. NIS 20 for delivery
for smaller orders in areas near Ramot Eshkol. The restaurant does catering
on and off site.
