Sasson V'Simcha

January 2014
No, this is not a wedding hall, though it would not be a bad name for one. Sasson v'Simcha restaurant in Jerusalem's First Station is named for the owner's father and grandmother. And you thought that only children were named for ancestors!

Sasson V'Simcha is owner Dror's business-baby. Father Sasson never imagined that his son would become a restaurateur. What kind of job is that for a nice Jewish boy? He used to say: "if you hate someone, wish that he become a restaurant owner. And if you really hate him wish him success in the business!" Dror's grandmother, it turns out, was named Simcha. So in the great ashkenazi tradition (that he has no part of) Dror named his business-baby after his father and grandmother, Sasson and Simcha. It does have a ring to it.

Sasson v'Simcha is a nostalgic food experience. All the foods are homemade with a personal touch bringing us back to grandma's kitchen. The restaurant offers a rich combination of Persian, Bukharan, Georgian, Moroccan, and Tripolitan cuisine. The foods are reasonably priced. You are welcome to eat at the restaurant or take home.

Sasson v'Simcha just opened about a month ago in First Station. It's kosher and we've been back three or four times. Reasonably priced kebabs and a whole row of bubbling pots with various soups and stews, Iraqi and Persian-style.
