General Guidelines for Eating Out at Restaurants

Finding a Restaurant on the eLuna Website
eLuna is an open system. You can search for restaurants and peruse the write ups without registering as a member. The Restaurants section on eLuna.com lists hundreds of kosher restaurants throughout Israel.

You can find a restaurant by its location, by name or the type of restaurant.

Finding a Restaurant by Location:

To find a restaurant by location select "Find a Restaurant" from the blue horizontal menu at the top of every screen. When you mouse over the words a menu will drop down with the names of the regions in Israel. You can choose a region directly or you can click on the heading "Find a Restaurant" which will bring you to the eLuna Restaurants home page.

At the top of the Restaurants Home Page you will see a list of regions. Click on a region where your city is located.
Example: Netanya is located in the Sharon. Petach Tikva is located in the Central area.

After you have chosen a region the list of restaurants in the region/city you selected will be displayed in table format, with their address and phone number. Click on the name of the restaurant for a full review, comments from other clients and a kosher coupon online.

Finding a Restaurant by Name:
If you know the name of the restaurant you can enter it in the edit box on the Restaurants home page. The edit box is located below the regions. Enter the first few letters of the name and the system will prompt the remainder. Click to get to the page for the restaurant.

Finding a Restaurant by Type:
eLuna has created categories of restaurants to help you find the restaurant closest to your needs. You can see the categories by choosing "categories" on the blue drop down menu or you can choose the category from the Restaurants home page. The list of restaurants in the categories are not limited to any geographical area. Categories is the easiest way for you to find types of restaurants throughout the country.

Suppose you want to visit a sushi restaurant and you are not limited by location. Choose "sushi" from the categories list and see all the kosher sushi restaurants on eLuna.com, in the country.

We have tried to create the most useful categories. If you have other ideas for categories that you do not see on the site, or you would change the category of a restaurant on our site, please email us for consideration.

Sorting the List of eLuna Restaurants
Now that you have chosen a city, the list of restaurants in that city are listed in table format. Above the list of restaurants you will see a panel of options for displaying the restaurants in the list.. Restaurants can be displayed as follows:
- by restaurant name (default)
- by restaurant neighborhood
- by category
- glatt/mehadrin restaurants

Click on the radio button adjacent to the sort option and the list will automatically be sorted by the criterion that you chose.

    eLuna Auctions

eLuna auctions are a fun way to win discounted vouchers at restaurants. eLuna members who participate responsibly enjoy the thrill of winning and save a good few shekels.

Here's how it works. Every week eLuna offers approximately 25 vouchers on Auction. The auctions are posted on eLuna by mid week, and they end on Thursday at 9pm. You can bid at any time from the time the auctions are posted till the they end. Note: Occasionally auctions end on Wednesday, depending on the calendar,
Subscribers to the auction newsletter will get a reminder of the auctions running and when they end. Subscribe to the auctions newsletter.

To view and to bid on the auctions click on "Auctions" on the horizontal menu at the top of the screen. A page showing the list of current auctions will open. The date when the auctions end appears at the top of the page. Be sure that you are bidding on auctions that end that week.

    Placing a Bid:
You must be a registered member of eLuna to bid on auctions. Click on the restaurant of your choice from the list of restaurants offering vouchers. A page will open with a description of the restaurant. Below the description you will see the following:

    first bid (start bid)
    current bid
    high bidder (screen name)
bid Increment (amount you have to add to bid)
    end date
remaining time till the end of the auction

When you enter a bid the system will prompt for your eLuna credentials. After you are cleared, your email address matches the one in our database, you can enter a bid. Your screen should announce you as the high bidder.

A window will pop up asking you to agree that If you win the auction you will pay for the voucher. eLuna takes this very seriously. Our income depends on the sale of these vouchers. If you win an auction and do not pay for it, we will remove you from the website.

    When the auction ends...
At the close of the auction the auction winners receive an email with a link to pay for the auction won.
Click on that link and make your payment. Payment is by credit card. The eLuna system will send the voucher to the winner immediately after payment, and a notification to the restaurant of the winner.

You can choose to have your voucher sent to you in email (for printing) or to your app. If you do not use the app, print the page with the voucher won. If you are registered on the eLuna app you can choose to receive the voucher on the app. There is no need to print vouchers on the app. Just show it at the restaurant and the server will press "redeem." This is the equivalent of presenting the printed page.

    • Auction vouchers are not transferable. They cannot be gifted to someone else. The restaurants check the names against the notifications that they receive from eLuna.
    • Vouchers are date stamped at the end of the auction. They are valid for 3 weeks from the end of the auction. We cannot extend vouchers. An expired voucher may not be honored by the restaurant.
    • First time bidders will be allowed to be the high bidder on only one auction.
    • Vouchers are non-refundable. You bought it, you own it. We only refund payments if the restaurant closes during the validity period of the voucher. We suggest that you not wait till the last day to use the voucher. Life happens and we don't want you to lose.
    • eLuna can process Israeli credit cards. We cannot refund American issued cards.

    eLuna Gift Certificates
    e
Luna onine gift certificates are a great way to gift friends and family in Israel. Say thank you, mazal tov, happy birthday, anniversary, and a host of other wishes with eLuna gift certificates. eLuna certificates will be delivered the next day by email (with the exception of shabbat and holidays). The recipient just prints it, presents it and sends you a thank you. See about eLuna gift certificates

    Purchasing a Gift Certificate
Click "Gift Certificates" on the horizontal menu at the top of every eLuna website page.
Choose the denomination of your gift. Gifts start at NIS 200.
Enter the name, email address and phone number for both the purchaser and the receiver of the gift.
Note that the phone is important if we need to contact you or the receiver with a text message.

You can choose the restaurant for your gift or the receiver can choose the restaurant for their gift. Click on "Choose a Restaurant" or "Receiver Chooses" after entering the information.

There is a NIS 30 fee for gift certificates where the receiver chooses the restaurant and a NIS 20 fee for gift certificates where the purchaser chooses.

Gift certificates are valid for 10 weeks. We will be happy to extend the date for another 3 months. After one year the gift is archived and we can no longer access it.

note: gift certificates cannot be purchased on the eLuna app.

    Redeeming a Gift Certificate
So you have received a gift certificate! Lucky you!
You received an email from eLuna with a link to a page where you can choose the restaurant where you want to use your gift certificate. Click on the link and choose the restaurant.

Our system will email the certificate for the restaurant that you have chosen. Print this page and present it at the restaurant. You can use the certificate on the restaurant's full menu. The value of the certificate will be deducted from your bill.

Example: If your gift certificate is for 400 shekels and your meals come to 450 shekels, you will be billed for the extra 50 shekels. You must use the entire certificate at one visit to the restaurant. So you cannot use 200 shekels and hope to come back another time to redeem the other 200. eLuna does not support this.

We want to make sure that you enjoy your certificate. So please follow these instructions to get the most out of your gift.

    • Be sure to thank the purchaser. Click on the link in the email
    • Be sure to choose the restaurant for your certificate two days in advance to give the restaurant time to alert their staff.
    • Gift certificates expire in 10 weeks. We will extend the certificate for another 3 months. After one year the gift is archived and we can no longer access it.
    • The full amount of the gift must be used at one session at the restaurant. Restaurants cannot divide the certificate and credit you at another visit to the restaurant.

    Troubleshooting: eLuna doesn't recognize you
So you are registered on eLuna and you would like to take a discount coupon, bid on an auction, or buy a voucher. The system prompts for your user name and password, you enter them and the system tells you that it does not know you.

What to do? Almost all of these problems are caused by human error. No matter how well you know your user name and password, no matter how many times you have entered them, it is always possible to enter a password that you use on another program, to interchange two letters, to skip a letter, or to enter an erroneous space.

To eliminate the possibility of human error we suggest that you request the eLuna system to email your user name and password to your address on record. At the bottom of every page under the heading "Membership" select "User Name/Password." Enter your email address in the field and the system will send you your data by email. Note if you have changed email addresses since you registered and have not informed us, this will not work.

For those who have kept their eLuna registration up to date: you will receive your user name and password by email. Copy and paste the data from the email into the fields on the eLuna screen. The system should then identify you and you will be able to execute your transaction on our system.

When You Can Use the eLuna Discount Coupons
eLuna discount coupons apply to the ala carte menu of the restaurant. The discount coupons do not apply to:

    • discounted meals
    • business lunches
    • take away meals if they are already discounted from the ala carte menu.

Some restaurants honor eLuna discount coupons for take away from the restaurant if you pick up at the restaurant. They do not honor the discount on deliveries. Services like Wolt do not honor eLuna coupons.

Some The restaurants measure the effectiveness of our website by the number of coupons that they receive. Many people tell us that they use eLuna to help them find information but they don't present the coupons. Others tell us that they often forget to bring their coupons to the restaurant. When you do this, you may be saving the restaurant a few shekels, but you are not helping eLuna! You are in effect using our service but not giving us the credit. If you don't present a coupon, please at least mention eLuna at the restaurant. We only have the leverage at restaurants that value the strength of our community.

    Visiting eLuna Restaurants
eLuna.com brings you the best of the kosher restaurants throughout Israel. Our goals are to inform you of the kosher restaurants available and to encourage kashrut by driving traffic to the kosher restaurants through the discount coupons.

The discounts on eLuna are not meant to put our restaurants and other kosher suppliers out of business. So let us try to avoid making unreasonable requests. Our restaurants should be glad to see eLuna customers and not dread eLuna coupon bearers. To that end please observe the following guidelines when at the restaurants:

    - Only present the discount coupons for ala carte meals. Do not expect that the discount coupon will be accepted on the business lunch. The business lunch is already discounted and it is not reasonable to expect the restaurant to discount it further.

    - If you are the winner of an eLuna auction or other benefit and the value on the face of the voucher does not cover the full cost of your meal, you will be billed for the difference. You cannot use the regular eLuna discount coupon to cover the difference between the value of the voucher and the bill.

    - Calculate your tip based on the bill before the discount. The owner of the restaurant benefits from the added traffic that eLuna drives to the restaurant. The waiter does not necessarily benefit proportionally.

    - eLuna restaurants are instructed to accept the discount coupon for an entire table. A group of people going out together should need to present only one eLuna coupon to receive the discount for the entire table. There are some restaurant owners who don't get it, and insist on a coupon for every couple. To avoid conflict, when you are a large group print out a few extra coupons just in case. It will avoid possible conflict later.

    - Visiting a restaurant should be a pleasurable experience and the discount should make it a bit easier to go out more often. If something goes wrong with the discount, don't spoil the fun by arguing with the restaurant. When you argue with a restaurant about an eLuna coupon you are giving eLuna a bad name and running the risk of ruining it for other eLuna clients at this restaurant. Take the name of the person at the restaurant who is giving you a hard time and write us an email. We will do our best to help straighten things out.

    - eLuna.com maintains excellent relations with the management of the restaurants on the site. If you feel that you have not been treated fairly at one of our restaurants, please send us an email and we will contact the restaurant and try to find a solution. For example if there was an error and your discount voucher was not accepted at a restaurant, we can usually arrange a double discount at your next visit to the restaurant (the discount that you did not get plus the current discount). This is the most reasonable compensation for this error. There is no compensation for the inconvenience, there is no prize or freebie and there is no payment for whiplash.

    - Whenever reporting to eLuna about a problem at a restaurant please note the date and time that the issue occurred, and the name of the person on duty that you were dealing with. This helps us sort out the problem and avoid it in the future.

    - Our restaurant owners welcome comments from customers. All of the comments sent to us about experiences at restaurants are forwarded to the restaurant. We do this as a service to help improve the quality of kosher restaurants. Please feel free to send us comments and suggestions that we will forward to the restaurant owners. They are usually very grateful for constructive comments.

General Guidelines for Eating Out at Restaurants
The following are some general guidelines on how to make your visit to a restaurant more pleasurable. This information applies to dining in all restaurants.

    • Reservations are always in order. Call in advance and reserve a table for your party. This is important even if you think that the restaurant will be empty or if your party is small. Reservations give the restaurant an idea of the expected traffic. When they know what is coming they can prepare themselves and your experience will be much nicer. Also, if you call in advance you can avoid the disappointment of finding the restaurant closed for a private event or arriving before the chef.

    • Some restaurants have an agreement with a nearby pay parking facility. If you have paid for parking take the parking slip with you and ask at the restaurant if they cover your parking charge. You may be pleasantly surprised.

    • Cellphones ringing in a restaurant annoy other diners. Speaking loudly into a cellphone annoys everyone else in the restaurant. Please be considerate of the other people in a restaurant who are enjoying their evening out.

The staff at eLuna.com wishes you great visits to our kosher restaurants. We hope that you enjoy the enormous effort that has gone into bringing you eLuna. Please tell everyone that you know about us, for our strength is in numbers.
