Greg Cafe, Bet Shemesh
Greg is a chain of dairy restaurants located in shopping malls throughout the country. If there is a city in Israel that does not have a Greg Cafe we haven't yet found it. Each restaurant is privately owned, and each owner puts his personal stamp on the restaurant. So although you will recognize each restaurant as being part of the chain, each restaurant has its unique qualities.
Greg in Beit Shemesh is a bright and welcoming restaurant in the middle of the second floor of the Big Fashion Mall. This branch stands out because of the friendliness of the staff and the excellent service. The food is fresh and delicious with several unique menu items. There is seating inside that spills out into the walkway of the mall.
Not just a good place to stop and catch your breath while shopping, Greg is also a destination restaurant in itself, no shopping required.
We love a menu on a tablet. First, the restaurant keeps them clean so they are not sticky or bent. I like being able to see a picture of what I am ordering, and I like that the menu can be shown in different languages. This starts your meal off on the right foot. That said, note that the English language menu did not keep up with the Hebrew, and there were items missing. Oh well. I am sure this will be corrected.
The Greg signature dishes are their breakfasts: generous and filling, reasonably priced, breakfasts are served all day. There are lunch specials, dinner meals, a host of light fare, and hot and cold running drinks. It is good to get some guidance from your server.
Other than the breakfasts, which are indeed special, Greg Beit Shemesh has its specialty items. Mozzarella cheese stuffed with Guacamole is unique. Greg Beit Shemesh bakes all of its breads and focaccia on the premises in their Taboun oven. Fresh and delicious these are not to be missed. The restaurant also prides itself on its fresh Denise fish dish. This dish has a reputation so be sure not to miss it.
Greg Cafe nods to vegans and people sensitive to gluten. Vegan dishes are marked on the menu, and there are plenty of marked vegan dishes in every category. So rejoice oh ye vegans.
Desserts are most popular at Greg, with the Belgian Waffle at the top of the popularity chart.
Note that several times a year Greg launches a new seasonal menu. The current winter menu includes luscious hot drinks topped with marshmallows and chocolates. Most popular is the elegant hot chocolate topped with a quarter of a Belgian waffle.
