How Rosh Pina has changed! Once a sleepy town, Rosh Pina is now a city, with a sprawling shopping center at the entrance, and traffic! What happened?
But not all is lost – there are still some vestiges of picturesque historic Rosh Pina and times long gone. One of these is Pinat Ohel restaurant. The restaurant is housed in the old Custom House building, that dates back to the Ottoman Empire and was then used by the British for monitoring traffic on the old North/South Lebanon/Palestine road. You’ll recognize this restaurant by its dark bricks and wrap-around porch. Street parking is available and parking on the dirt around the side.
The first thing that attracted us about this restaurant was the no smoking sign on the front door. And they mean it. The thick walls of the restaurant are the same rustic brick inside and outside, giving it an authentic feel. The restaurant has two cozy rooms with tables for two and more.
This is an everyman’s restaurant serving good Israeli-style food at reasonable prices. Not fancy, Pinat Ohel serves up good-tasting home-cooked meals. There is waiter service or you can approach the counter and choose your main course and salads from the traditional Israeli selection. Two people can eat a full meat meal for under NIS 100, which makes Pinat Ohel the perfect lunch stop on family trips to the Galil.
Stop at Pinat Ohel on Friday and pick up food for Shabbat. The tables are laden with different foods, perfect if you are staying at one of the many Tzimmers in the area.
Getting There:
Turn into Rosh Pina from the main north-south highway. There is a large shopping center at this corner. Take the first right turn after the mall and continue down this road. The restaurant is on the right hand side across from the police station.
