Taiku has taken on a new hechsher - OU Mehadrin. They now have a Mashgiach Tmidi and the same great products and dishes with one major exception: All of the meat and poultry is now under the hechsher of either - Rav Rubin, or Rav Landau, Eidah Chareidis, Agudas Yisroel.

Taiku on Emek Refaim in Jerusalem, is a part of the new breed of sushi restaurants. Passionate about the desire to take sushi to its next evolutionary stage, the owners of Taiku have created a menu that gives respect to the traditional modes of sushi. At the same time they try to push the boundary forward by adding some new and interesting creations of their own.

All of the favorites are there, from Maki, to Nigiri & Sashimi. The really innovative creations however are the house specialties. Take the Mediterranean Roll ; Denis with creamy olive tapenade, basil & cucumber, a true fusion of tastes. The Rainbow Roll is also very interesting. Cucumber, spring onion, yellowtail, topped and layered with tuna, white fish, salmon, and nana. For people more interested in a vegetarian option try the Vegetarian Maki; Grilled eggplant, squash/pumpkin, shitake mushrooms, fried onion, and brown rice. Yum!

Outside catering available and events in the restaurant for up to 50 guests.

EFFY Date: November 08. Description: Nobu, Zuma, Fukuzushi, beware; Jerusalem has just entered the world of Sushi and Asian food with a competitive bid. Taiku is an amazing place. The setting is elegant starting with the classy deck at the entrance all the way through the wall murals. But food is what this is really about and that is where Taiku excels in a global way. The Sushi is delicious. Whether a Maki, Nigri or plain old Sashimi, the freshness of the fish and the amazing cut and quality melts like butter in your mouth. I loved their spicy Tuna! Their funky exotic sushi starters include combinations such as the Mediterranean Roll containing Denis olives, basil and cucumber and a great Salmon Skin containing tofu cream cheese, onion ,cucumber, Salmon skin and a piece of Salmon on top. I must say these sounded rather scary in the beginning who plays with the basics? But, they are yummy and fun. The main courses are superb and all the fish are flavorsome and yummy! They have some specialty soups and I loved the Beet and Butternut Squash soup.
