Hayekev (The Winery)
Hayekev dairy restaurant is a landmark in Netanya. Hayekev is a very spacious restaurant with room for individuals, small parties and groups. In addition to a very comfortable indoor space, the restaurant has a gorgeous outdoor space that faces the sea. You can't get better than this. Relax as you enjoy the beautiful sea breeze from a comfortable place under the outdoor umbrellas. You won't be alone. For those in the know, this is one of the most popular spots in Netanya.
We stopped in at Hayakev for lunch mid week. The restaurant does not offer a business lunch so we chose from the regular menu. Gone the sticky plastic menus. At Hayekev the menu is on an electronic tablets with pictures of each dish. We decided to share the Crispy Cauliflower starter and then we each chose a main course. I chose the Lasagne from the Italian menu and my partner chose the Denise fillet with chips from the fish menu.
There was no problem sharing the yummy cauliflower starter. The crispy batter-fried pieces were delicious, and other than
not willing to give up any of these precious nuggets, there were plenty for two and we both enjoyed the dish.
When a tray of small bowls of salads, a bowl of humus topped with herbs and a large focaccia bread were delivered to our table. We thought there was a mistake and this was intended for another table. "We didn't order this," we told the waitress. We did not realize but the salads and the bread come with the fish dish. So after the shared starter we shared the salads and the focaccia. My companion topped this off with a beer.
Note: The lovely looking herb topping on the humus was actually salt, pepper and cilantro (kusbara). If you are sensitive to kusbara tread lightly. The foods are
spiced with a heavy hand.
The starter and the salads were certainly enough food for lunch and in normal circumstances we would have stopped there. Just when we thought we couldn't eat another thing, out came our main courses: the lasagne and the fish dish with chips. Whew! A lot of food. The restaurant graciously packed up our main courses which we took home for another time.
It is very hard to resist the dairy Hayekev desserts. If we had another inch of room for rmore food we would have ordered a dessert. We did make room for an off menu scoop of ice cream.
Parking: The restaurant is next door to a city parking lot. Pass the restaurant on your right and you'll see the lot. The entrance to the restaurant is through this parking lot. There are about 10 steps up from the lot into the restaurant.
Across the street from the restaurant there is a private lot where parking is 20 shekels for 4 hours. From Gad Machnes Street you can enter the building without any steps.
