Kinor Bakikar

August 2017
Kinor Bakikar is an elegant chef's restaurant, specializing in fusion meat dishes and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu also includes fish, seasonal salads and breads baked especially for you. The restaurant is located in Music Square, in Jerusalem's prestigious residential and cultural complex in Nahalat Shiva. The Music Center contains a variety of boutique shops, a museum and a gallery. The restaurant occupies a large area with both indoor and outdoor seating which faces Music Square. This is ideal for enjoying the live musical performances held in the square.

The fine design and the elegant decor is the perfect setting for the fine food served at the restaurant. Architect Severin Zitman is designed the space, choosing the furnishings, the elegant parquet flooring and the unique color combination. A Jasper stove brought from Italy is at the heart of the restaurant. Here the meat is roasted, giving it a unique flavor.

Kinor Bakikar is a high end dining experience. Waiters are dressed in white shirts and bow ties. Chef Kobi Katani presides over the restaurant's kitchen. He acquired his fine reputation at successful restaurants in Australia and in Israel. The dishes that he presents are those that you know and love, cooked in a modern style with the highest quality ingredients. In addition to a good place to eat, Kinor Bakikar is a place for an enjoyable cultural experience.

For my husbands 70th birthday, his sister and brother-in-law took us out to dinner to this high-end meat restaurant in the recently renovated Kikar HaMusica (Music Square), anchored by the lovely new Jewish Music Museum, with several other (dairy) restaurants adjacent.

The wine list was long and with a good assortment, but with very few items available by the glass, most being sold only by the bottle. And the separate cocktail list had no prices included I guess if ya gotta ask..

The menu offers 10-12 appetizers (no soups) and the same number of main dishes. The portion [sizes] are adequate not too small and not overly generous, although pricey. But the food is beautifully presented and quite unique and delicious, which is what we would expect from such a high-end eatery. .

For starters we chose Lamb Shwarma Fricassee (49 NIS), Liver Pate with sesame crackers (47 NIS) & Lamb Spare Ribs (69 NIS). They were all beautifully plated and nice amounts for starters; enough to arouse all our appetites, but not too much as to spoil us for the mains. The shwarma was just a few strips of nice roasted meat and some strange fried balls of dough as decoration. My husband was served a plate of gravlax on the house, for his birthday (if this is the pickled fish, its 54 NIS). In addition, while we were waiting, a plate of long, thin garlic-flavored focaccia were served with small plates of olives, hummous and matbucha. The bread was delicious crisp and warm and it was difficult to avoid eating too much and spoiling our appetites for what was to come. .

After a bit of a wait, most of the mains arrived: Salmon, the fish of the day (129 NIS), Confit of Duck with Sweet Potato Puree (110 NIS) and Roasted Breast of Chicken on Quinoa & Red Beets (92 NIS). Unfortunately, all the mains were not served at the same time and I had to wait for the Lamb Chops (182 NIS) Id ordered. This should not happen in a high-end restaurant. The meat dishes were all delicious 3 crisp & juicy lamb chops [on not-so-exciting black lentils], soft and delicate roast chicken breast, and melt-in-your mouth duck, with a generous half duck as the portion. The salmon was adequate, though not grilled as promised, but instead immersed in the accompanying sauce which disguised the taste of the fish. Some of the dishes were not as hot as they should have been, which was also a bit of a disappointment, although it was our mistake not asking the staff for them to be reheated. .

After finishing the meal we were all well sated, but since it was my husbands birthday, after all, we ordered the Belgian chocolate souffl (49 NIS) which we shared. The waitresses brought it over decorated with sparklers while singing Happy Birthday, a nice surprise. .

All in all this is an elegant special occasion meal, that will not disappoint. Just dont be afraid to mention any issues you may have at these prices, you deserve the best!
