Shimmy's Hamirpeset (the Terrace) is an American-style mehadrin kosher burger and grill restaurant in the Golan Heights. The restaurant is located in Hispin, across from the main shul. Shimmy named the restaurant for its spacious wooden deck with the view of the beautiful Golan countryside. The specialty of the restaurant are the fresh and high quality meats, mostly sourced locally in the Golan. All the delicious side dishes and sauces are homemade.  This strictly kosher restaurant will scratch your itch for American burgers and grill food.

Folks are most enthusiastic about Shimmy's hamburgers. Basic burgers come in three sizes, single (160 gram), double and triple patties (480 grams!) at reasonable prices, that include toppings of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and the special house dressing.

You can enhance your burger with additional special toppings of caramelized onion, fried onion, sunny-side up egg or smoked mushrooms. Burger connoisseur will appreciate Shimmy’s special burgers: a lamb burger (160 grams), Entrecote burger (220 grams), and Portobello mushroom patty, all with the same toppings. There is also a grilled chicken and steak burger.

For families and groups of friends Shimmy’s offers discounted deals. There are also children’s burger choices: just a smaller burger or a child’s burger with fries and a sippy drink

For those who favor non-meat dishes, like this writer, Shimmy's offers several options. We recommend the Portobello mushroom burger with the house toppings and sauce or the huge green salad with Shimmy's dressings. That'll keep you chomping while your companion has his meat sandwich, with plenty to take home.

Shimon Shain, the founder and inspiration of the Shimmy's restaurant chain made aliyah in 2016 from Los Angeles and made his home in the Golan. Two of the branch restaurants and the beef at these restaurants come from the Golan. The hot dogs and pastrami are made in a boutique smokehouse in accordance with the chef's specifications. Shimmy is a hands-on owner, periodically visiting each of the locations. Todd Aarons is the culinary inspiration behind Shimmy's. Todd was the original chef and part owner of Crave Restaurant in Jerusalem. His signature foods are the non-dairy meat substitutes and milk substitute like vegan cheese used in kosher cheese burgers and the corn dog coating. His Lamb Bacon has dubbed him the chef who gets "as close-to-treif-as-kosher-can-get." This is a pretty safe bet because most of the diners at these restaurants have never had a treif cheese burger so they would not know how authentic they are.

Some History.. Shimmy’s began as a food truck in Haspin, in the Golan Heights. This was one of the first food trucks in Israel. The idea was to bring successful American culinary concepts to Israel. The food truck brought high-quality, down-to-earth, reasonably priced food to the Israeli public. Over time Shimmy's expanded to include Shimmy’s HaMirpeset, a chef burger restaurant in the Golan; Shimmy’s Bar & Grill in Bnei Yehuda, overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Shimmy’s restaurants in Modi’in, Hadera, and Jerusalem followed, bringing the American diner experience to Israel. Shimmy's specialize in smash burgers and a deliciously indulgent American-style menu.
