Tipsy Cafe

If you are nostalgic for the great United States that you once knew, and you can use some serious American style comfort food, Tipsy Cafe is for you. Tipsy is the closest thing to an American diner that you'll find in Israel. American owners Kevin and Gedalya have created a concept restaurant to love.

Tipsy goes hand in hand with Bardak Pizza & Beer, its long-running sister restaurant, in the same location on the other side of the wall. Whereas the focus at Bardak is the pizza and the beer, Tipsy has the stamp of an American diner. The focus is on classic sweet and filling comfort food with some dishes beyond the expected.

The lead dishes at Tipsy are the pancakes and French toast. This section of the menu stars with the sweet and crispy Belgian waffles topped with melted butter and drizzled with maple syrup. The menu (in English) has such luscious descriptions you can almost taste the waffles before they come to the table! Or choose a stack of Mamas pancakes, with butter and maple syrup. These are even more decadent when served with any 3 toppings, including ice cream, whipped cream, bananas, chocolate sauce and more included with the dish. The menu recommends the Waffles and pancakes for breakfast, but nobody gets to decide that for me. I could feast on Tipsy waffles and pancakes any time of the day.

The folks at Tipsy have put their creative ideas into play with the Seinfeld Babka
French Toast bites. These bites of French toast are made not with bread, but with bites of cinnamon Babka and sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar. Whooda thought!
Babka bites are at the top of the "Munchies" menu where you will also see the Mozzarella sticks and the O-Rings. Not THOSE O-rings, silly. These are onion rings. 2Cent Plain - a glass of plain seltzer is a New York drink from the Great Depression Era. At Tipsy you'll pay NIS 49 for 2Cent Plain but it will come with waffled cheese toast filled with vegetables that they could dream of during Depression days.

Another creative idea from the folks at Tipsy is the waffle fries and the variations of the same. These are potato fries in the shape of waffles, with or without added cheese. And speaking of cheese, when was the last time you saw mozzarella sticks with a marinara sauce on an Israeli menu?

There is a long list of truly great salads if your sweet tooth has not yet kicked in for the day.
The motto of the Tipsy Café, is “Caffeinated Mornings, Tipsy Nights” suggesting that you wait till the evening to enjoy a drink with some kick.
In fact, the cocktails are available at Tipsy all day:
non-alcoholic for teetotalers or drinks with more kick, for those who prefer. Together with nishnushim is just the thing to have, any time of day.

A lot of thought and effort went into Tipsy, Gedalya's concept restaurant.which was several years in the making. The bright and charming decor at Tipsy is unique and very different from its sister restaurant Bardak. The restaurant was scheduled to open just after the holidays, 2023 but the war took Gedalya away from the restaurant and the opening was delayed. Tipsy is now on track, running full speed. Now is a good time to visit this restaurant.

Location: The restaurants Bardak and Tipsy bear the address on Keren Hayesod. But in fact, they are at the corner of Keren Hayesod and Jabotinsky streets, with the entrance on Jabotinsky.

                                    From the Menu:
Wafles, pancakes and french toast NIS 59
                  Munchies NIS 35
                  Salads NIS 59 - 65
                  Waffle fries NIS 30 - 40

                  Boozy shakes NIS 44

From: Marion Silman,7.May.2024 The cocktails were divine. The food was delicious. Large varied menu. Plenty of desserts. Our Waitress T.G. (her initials) but also T.G. was so very helpful. Knew the menu and gave helpful suggestions. Nothing was too much trouble for her. My favourite was the Mozarella sticks. We hopefully we will become regular visitors to this Cafe. N.B. Very high sugar content in ALL the desserts. Leave your calorie Counter at home.

Have just had the pleasure of a visit to Tipsy Cafe at the junction of Jabotinsky and Keren Hayesod. An informal and perhaps basic eatery, but worth visiting nonetheless. The fare may be limited, but is tasty and reasonable value. The staff (Tami) are delightful and efficient, and it's worth a visit.
