El

If you like grilled meat you are in the right place. This is the El Gaucho specialty The meat at El Gaucho is imported from South America. It is then aged and processed to tenderize and increase its tastiness and juiciness. The secret of the taste of the meat at El Gaucho is in the selection of the cuts, the aging of the meat and the unique grilling method. Your meat is prepared fresh by the grill chef
when you make your order.

The menu offers a nice selection of meat and vegetable appetizers. There is also a short list of salads. But the star of the show is the meat. The menu offers high end starters such as Grilled Foie Gras served with strawberry preserves and toasted bread. My companion's favorite starter are the crispy Chicken Wings glazed with a sweet BBQ and chili sauce. Meats, such as steaks, veal chops, range from 250 to 350 grams. Extra large portions are charged per 100 grams. There are also several quality burgers in the NIS 100 range. The El Gaucho menu contains pictures of the foods so you can get your order right the first time.

We were a group of three, out for an indulgent lunch. We were anxious to try different dishes, and to taste as many as possible, we were happy to share. We began our meal with the mushrooms starter. Out came, a sizzling iron pan of sauteed mushrooms with garlic, basil and olive oil. The dish was impressive and we all agreed, very tasty. Our second starter was a meat empanada on a bed of white cabbage salad. Enpanadas come with vegetables or with meat. You might want to opt for the vegetarian version considering that there is much meat ahead. Since this is an Argentinian meat restaurant, our third starter was the chorizo hot dogs, also on the house white cabbage salad. This is a truly Argentinian dish, flavorful and not excessively spicy. When restaurants prepare chorizo for the middle-Eastern palate, they are generally too peppery. These were just right.
Rather than ordering individual main courses the restaurant suggested that they bring a tasting of several kinds of meats. Out came a platter of entrecote steak and pargit on a "Pariza" wooden platter as they do in South America. We shared the steak and each had a pargit. The steak was done to a tasty medium well, but we both favored the pargit with onion and condiments on the side. Meat always goes with beer, and we each had a bottle of Corona beer, most appropriate and refreshing for a South American style meal.
Although the meat is the calling card of this restaurant, fish and vegetable dishes are also available.
