Jonah's Kitchen Bar

When a restaurant in Jaffa is named Jonah, chances are that it is not named for the owner. Jonah's in Jaffa is an in-joke for folks who know their Bible. The biblical prophet Jonah (from the book of the same name) set sail from the port of Jaffa, trying to outrun God's orders.

In short, Jonah is tossed overboard from the get-away boat and is swallowed by a whale. From the belly of the whale he repents and is forgiven for his attempted escape, is expunged by the whale and goes off to do God's bidding.

Jonah completed his project successfully but ended his days an unhappy man, maligned as a false prophet by the folks of Ninveh.

A nice burger at Jonah's Kitchen Bar would have put the Biblical Jonah in much better spirits. Jonah's Kitchen Bar offers delicious food from breakfast through dinner and late night snack.

Jonah's Kitchen Bar Menu

At least two things set Jonah's Kitchen Bar apart. One is their breakfast, which is quite unusual for a meat restaurant. The breakfast menu is served until noon and features classic Mediterranean choices like Melawah and Shakshuka. Second, Jonah's Kitchen Bar offers many dishes not available elsewhere, like skirt steak and veal schnitzel.

In addition, Jonah's Kitchen Bar is a restaurant with a sense of humor. Here you will feast on tasty appetizers with Biblical references such as "Gourd of Jonah" (squash) or "Jonah's Whale" (fish and chips). The "King of Ninveh" Entrecote burger struck our fancy, along with two fish dishes; "Great Storm" and "The Phoenix" (from a different mythology). Also on the menu find "Escape to Tarshish" and "Jonah's Secret" not to be confused with Victoria's.

The menu does include a plethora of salads, sandwiches, pastas, meat and fish entrees, like cutlets, skewers or kabobs. No matter what your dietary preferences you will find something here to your liking.

Make sure to leave some room for desserts such as apple pie or chocolate souffle, or even maple syrup and vanilla ice. At Jonah's Kitchen Bar the food is plentiful and reasonably priced, while the decor is spacious, decorative and inviting. Evening dinner guests can enjoy the tapas bar and live entertainment. Check out Jonah's for a hearty meal and a good time.

The restaurant is located in the area of the Jaffa flea market, the newest hip restaurant and good-time spot in Tel Aviv/Jaffa.
